FREEDOM
Today I watched the children on TV
Reciting all the names
Of people who have died
None of them in vain;
Those children's voices quivered
Yet they were so brave
As they read aloud for us:
"Alice; Elizabeth; Dave."
I watched as older couples
Clutched a single rose
For their son or daughter
In memory, I suppose;
Their faces told the story
Of two short years ago
Their lives changed forever
And time for them just froze.
Almost three thousand people
Who left a lot of sons
And where is her Daddy
When a daughter marries one?
And where is the Mommy
Who used to braid her hair
Daddy tries but lately
He doesn't seem to care.
The aged parents are older
They've outlived their son
And why did God take Emily
She was just twenty-one?
So many eyes showed sorrow
As today I watched TV
And cried for those I never knew
And thanked God we're still free.
But there's a price for freedom
Nine Eleven taught us that
Those children's little voices
"Susan; Vincent; Matt".
Just a name in the air
Like dust, in the wind
But they were someone's daddy
Or mother or best friend.
Life goes on for you and I
Yet we'll never be the same
The enemy found our weakness
To them its just a game;
America must keep on fighting
To keep it's people free
Or soon that same enemy
Will find you and me.
