TAKE ME BACK
If I could just go back today
To nineteen sixty-four
Knowing what I know today
I'd just shut the door
And never once would I look back
As off to see the world
I'd become a woman
And leave behind the girl.
Take me back to my youth
And give me back those days
When the future looked so bright
The stars shone on the waves;
Dreams seemed attainable
Goals were within reach
As I walked alone, barefoot
Down at Sebim beach.
I'd crawl on knees just to find
That brown eyed little lass
Swinging on a home-made swing
Or at the rear in class;
School was insignificant
Boys were everywhere
We primped and shyly waited
As we teased our bouffant hair.
If I had only known back then
That I didn't have to worry
I'd have waited patiently
And not be in a hurry;
But plain old life got in the way
And I was like the rest
Settling for a future life
That for me was not the best.
Now, I long for '64
To have another chance
But I look in the mirror
And see it's my last dance;
If you are a girl today
Petite, cute and smart
Get your education first
Then follow your own heart.
If I could just go back today
I'd set myself a goal
And I'd slow my mind down
Make my body whole;
Take me back to '64
Give me back myself
And watch me soar & fly
In the life that I have left.
Take me back.........
