SURPRISE!

SURPRISE!!!

The telephone rang loud & clear
I answered it with "hello"
She said it was the florist shop
They'd deliver at 2 or so;
It was of course, Valentine's
But I was still surprised
And when I read the little card
I couldn't believe my eyes!

I saw a huge, fresh bouquet
Wrapped with a white ribbon
They must cost quite a sum
I tell you I'm not kiddin';
"From your Secret Admirer"
I read aloud the words
And racked my brain for hours
Recalling macho guys and nerds.

It's now been quite a few days
And they have died and gone
To the trash outside my home
Was it Arthur, Will or Jon?
I wonder who did send them
If they'll show their face?
And if they bring more flowers
I hope they bring a vase!

But it was a sweet surprise
Tho I don't have a clue
I hope that he's single
So we might say "I do;"
If he has teeth and money
I will be in Heaven
Oh my God, it's Costner
You know, as in "KEVIN!!"

Guess again...........

AT LEAST HE LEFT THE FRAME

AT LEAST HE LEFT THE FRAME

She walked into the empty house
That they once called a home
She saw he'd taken everything
He had ever owned;
The end came so suddenly
He took all the blame
He also took their water bed
But at least he left the frame.

She should have seen it coming
When he stayed late at work
She barely recognized herself
So thin, so stressed, so hurt;
She walked all through the empty house
She still shared his name
Their wedding picture was now gone
But at least he left the frame.

Their bed and photograph are gone
But memories just hang around
Another year has come and gone
Snow's back on the ground;
A new mattress helps her sleep
She's deleted his last name
He took away her everything
But at least he left the frame.

Thank God, he left the frame.......

"LISA"

"L I S A"

She used to sit so patiently
In front of our TV
On the floor, by herself
Or sometimes, beside me;
And when the screen lit all up
And Romper Room appeared
She would clap and smile
As if she truly cared.

When they called out the names
Of kids who might be watching
She always got excited
And sometimes started marching;
She longed to hear "Lisa"
And once or twice she did
And oh, she was so happy
Just to hear it said.

"Miss Anne" was the teacher
How she loved her so
She never interrupted her
'Til it was time to go;
"No, I want to hear some more"
She'd shout to Miss Anne
And I'd smile from the kitchen
As she marched to the band.

Now Miss Anne has passed away
And Lisa's not a child
How I wish we could go back
Just for a little while;
We'd roll & mold the play-dough
Or color the sun & moon
Wait to hear her name again
From Miss Anne on Romper Room.
